What is Feminism? (present day feminism)
There is a wide range of answers to this one question, the textbook definition would be that feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of equality. But just like every opinion based concept it has evolved throughout the years. A lot of women consider themselves feminists without even having the proper knowledge of this ideology, they do it purely for the ‘girl boss’ aesthetic. From what I’ve experienced till date, these ‘feminists’ honestly don’t even know what they want. They want equality but at the same time want chivalry. So basically they are both liberals (because of the demand for equality) and conservatives (because of the demand to receive special treatment that they ‘should’ get solely for being a woman). To simplify it more they want to erase the equality difference between men and women but at the same time want to highlight the difference only when it comes to getting treated in a special way. Another thing I’ve noticed is that these ‘feminists’ take part in socially unaccepted activities but when they’re disrespected for it they call society ‘misogynistic’ despite the fact that men doing the same thing would be equally shamed upon. To them being female is an excuse to get away with whatever they want.
Now that we have a clear idea about modern day feminism, let’s talk about demand for equal jobs. This is one of the highest demands being brought forward by feminists. Due to this companies are ‘hiring for diversity’. Now here is where I’ll probably get called misogynistic. (I do not intend to make any indirect claims about women that could be stereotypes etc) I hate the entire concept of hiring for diversity, why is it that the gender of the job applicant is a higher priority than the level of skill? What if there’s someone who can do the job better but unfortunately he is a man? Wouldn’t that be considered misandry? What if men start to complain about that? If this keeps continuing there will be no social and economic development at all because people are forced to deprioritise actual skill. I strongly believe that the only way people should be judged is by how much they provide to society. My point here is that the prioritisation of everything is degrading. There will always be differences, there will always be categories and there will always be inequality. If the world is so desperate to eliminate inequality, modernisation and all development will slowly shatter. Lets say someday equality is actually accomplished between men and women, there will be more minor categories of people demanding for the same equality and it would only continue that way. I myself am a woman but I never wanted to make it easier for me to get hired etc by demanding for equal jobs or pay, I’m willing to work and provide so that I’d be seen as a valuable human resource in today’s society.
